Type: Mixed Use Building
Year: Fall 2022
San Francisco, California
Perched atop hills at the entrance to one of the largest natural harbors, San Francisco has significantly influenced California and the U.S. The Gold Rush transformed it into a cosmopolitan metropolis. However, San Francisco Bay faces threats from rising sea levels, sediment supply disruptions, and development, leaving only 5% of its marshland untouched. Climate change exacerbates the disappearance of coastal wetlands worldwide. The proposal is to embrace biophilic ideologies in urban design, creating new ecosystems and improving biodiversity through resilient and regenerative strategies. The vision includes human-centric designs with cycling and pedestrian lanes, and interactive zones to enhance biodiversity.
