Kyoto, Japan
Japan, the land of the rising sun, boasts stunning natural beauty and centuries of unique art. Its distinct culture remains vibrant today. Bordered by the Pacific Ocean, Korea, and Russia, Japan experiences four distinct seasons with a climate ranging from subarctic in the north to subtropical in the south.
Kyoto, located in the Kansai region, is Japan's cultural capital and a major tourist destination. Home to numerous Buddhist temples, Shinto shrines, palaces, and gardens, many are UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Kyoto preserves ancient traditions while being a dynamic, contemporary city.
Japan is the most seismically active country, often experiencing devastating earthquakes and tsunamis. Its pagodas are known for their flexibility and resilience.
VISION STATEMENT
Make Kyoto the hub of vertiports. Serve Japan as the region's global transportation hub. Design Sustainable and earthquake resistant Airport in Kyoto.
The Land-Sea-Air-Triumvirate focus for the new Kyoto Airport
Land Connections:
- Automotive and rail fingers into the west coast of the bay and to the mainland.
- Automotive and rail connection to mainland (probably underwater).
Sea Connections:
- Energy-efficient, high-speed ferry boats connecting people from the airport (and vicinity) to all parts
of the Tokyo bay.
- Heavy-capacity cargo ships connecting to the world.
- Underwater research laboratory and eco-tourism center with underwater hotel and scuba-launch
centers
Air Connections:
- Standard, subsonic planes and supersonic (using runways) to connect to the world.
- Tri-fan-type, VTOL aircraft providing "door-to-door" access to all parts of Japan (no runway required).
- VTOL air taxis to access the metropolitan area of Kyoto and other emerging metropolitan parts of
central Japan.
